ANTHONY PIZZO

Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning

As we continue our commitment to opening the door to each child’s future, I am excited to invite you to the Summer 2025 Professional Development Academy—a carefully designed opportunity to deepen our learning in alignment with our district’s strategic goals and building initiatives. This summer, our focus remains on literacy and meeting the needs of all students, ensuring that every professional learning experience is purposeful, impactful, and directly connected to the success of our students.

We will kick off the summer with two keynote learning sessions, setting the stage for a summer of growth and collaboration. Tammy Gibbons, Director of Professional Development & Information Services at the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, will lead the PLC Summer Academy, helping us explore the power of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). This session will highlight best practices for collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and instructional improvement—critical elements that will help us strengthen our work as teams and support student success more effectively.

Additionally, we are fortunate to welcome Novak Education to facilitate the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Lesson Design Workshop. UDL is about designing learning experiences that set high expectations for all students—both those who are advanced and those who may struggle. This framework ensures that all learners have access to rigorous, engaging instruction by removing barriers and providing multiple ways for students to engage, process, and express their learning. By embracing UDL principles, we can create inclusive, student-centered classrooms where every student, regardless of background or ability, is challenged and supported to reach their full potential.

I strongly encourage all staff to engage in one of these two keynote learning experiences to ground our summer of professional growth in shared learning. Each session offers a unique lens on the work we do—whether it’s strengthening our collaborative culture through PLCs or enhancing lesson design to reach every student. Both will provide actionable strategies to bring back to our classrooms and teams, ensuring that we continue to grow together in alignment with our district priorities.

Throughout the summer, additional sessions will provide opportunities to enhance literacy instruction, ensuring that every student becomes a confident reader and writer. We will also focus on inclusive and differentiated instruction, equipping educators with tools to support the success of all students, regardless of background or ability. Additionally, sessions will emphasize high-impact instructional practices that elevate student engagement, critical thinking, and academic achievement. This summer is an opportunity for us to learn together, grow together, and ensure that every initiative we pursue is meaningful, aligned, and effective. I am excited to continue this journey with you and look forward to a summer of collaboration, inspiration, and progress toward our shared vision of student success.

Let’s make this a summer of intentional learning and impactful growth—because when we focus on the right work, we truly open the door to each child’s future.
