Karen Maderski

Karen Maderski is an incredibly invested educator who always places her students at the center of every decision. Her creativity and problem-solving skills shine through as she finds unique ways to celebrate each child’s strengths and help them succeed. Leah Cooper

Leah Cooper is the definition of selfless leadership. Jenny Toth

Jenny Toth is a strong, kind, and collaborative educator who exemplifies what it means to be student-centered. Beloved by students, families, and colleagues alike, Jenny brings warmth and positivity into everything she does. Carlie Guetzke

4TH GRADE TEACHER

Carlie Guetzke brings both innovation and heart to her 4th grade classroom at Horizon. As a dedicated math teacher, she empowers her students to take charge of their own learning, even implementing student-led small groups that foster collaboration and confidence. Beyond the classroom, Carlie leads Horizon’s Student Council and was instrumental in launching the Playground Pals program, promoting inclusion and belonging during recess. She is the definition of a team player—whether supervising during late bus arrivals, designing and painting a new mural, or presenting at a school board meeting, Carlie steps up without hesitation. Her impact reaches far beyond her students—she uplifts the entire school community.

Julie Reuter

Julie Reuter is an innovative educator who brings real-world experiences into her classroom to ignite students’ passion for learning. She founded the HookJr, a student journalism club that gives learners the chance to explore roles like reporter, illustrator, editor, and photographer—transforming school events into exciting journalistic opportunities. Julie also created a mentorship program within the club, empowering older students to support younger peers. Her love for literacy is evident in how she introduces new genres and authors to students, while tailoring instruction to match their unique interests and learning needs. Christina Swanson

Christina Swanson is a leader in reading instruction and a vital member of Horizon’s Building Leadership Team. She is known for her deep expertise in literacy best practices and her ability to support struggling readers with skill and compassion. Christina not only works directly with students but also shares her knowledge with teachers through high-quality professional development, equipping her colleagues with strategies to better support their students. Her ability to build meaningful relationships and communicate clearly with families makes her an invaluable resource and advocate for student growth.

Sarah Smith

Sarah Smith approaches each day with a deep belief in second chances and new beginnings for her students. Abby Varela

SPANISH TEACHER

Abby Varela, Spanish Teacher, is a vital community partner as a translator to students and families. She is a phenomenal connection builder with students and staff, always open to learning others’ perspectives. Known as the queen of all extra responsibilities—coach, traffic duty, lunch supervision, NHS, diversity club—Abby does it all with positivity and heart. Her ability to juggle multiple roles without losing her spark is remarkable. Abby’s impact reaches beyond the classroom, helping students feel seen, understood, and supported.

SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER

Aaron Yuskis

Aaron Yuskis, Social Studies Teacher, calmly approaches situations with an open mindset, always willing to help and learn from others. He brings a fun and interesting approach to class—from cowboy hats to judge robes—and is clear and transparent about grading and expectations. A Pewaukee High School fan-favorite, Aaron is known and loved by students throughout the years. His lessons spark curiosity and engagement, helping students see history and civics in a new light. Aaron’s approachable and humorous personality helps create a comfortable, welcoming classroom environment.

Nadine Sevens

Nadine Sevens, Science Teacher, demonstrates a deep care for all students at all times and shoulders the leadership of Student Council events with grace. Ryan McEhlaney

Ryan McEhlaney, Horizon 5th Grade Teacher, in his first year, is known for his calm, caring, and respectful demeanor. He creates an inclusive classroom where every student feels they belong and is so impactful that his entire class named him what they’re most grateful for during a mindfulness activity. Beth Young Eagle

Truthfully, we don’t know what PHS would be without Beth Young-Eagle. Beth is extremely reliable and always willing to help out—whether it’s covering a half-day assignment or stepping in for a full semester, her consistency has been a cornerstone of support. She’s worked with generations of Pewaukee families, and it’s not uncommon for her to teach the children of former students—earning their respect from day one. Even in retirement, Beth continues to be a vital presence, providing positivity, professionalism, and passion. She has filled in for paraprofessionals, special education teachers, and classroom teachers alike, often with little notice but always with great impact. Her deep care for students and unwavering dedication truly exemplify what it means to serve with heart.

Cory Haight

Cory Haight is more than a substitute teacher—she’s a beloved member of the PLE family. Known for her flexibility, kindness, and willingness to support in any role, Cory makes a difference wherever she goes in the building. Whether she's helping in the classroom, filling in at a moment’s notice, or adjusting her schedule to meet students' needs, her dedication shines through. Students look forward to seeing her, and staff deeply appreciate her calming presence and upbeat attitude. Cory has become a trusted constant at PLE, contributing not just time, but warmth and heart to the school community.

Ann Zindler

Ann Zindler consistently brings professionalism, warmth, and a strong instructional foundation to every assignment she takes on. Her extensive ELA content knowledge has filled key vacancies with grace and expertise, supporting both student learning and team cohesion. Ann has a unique ability to quickly connect with students and staff alike, building trust and rapport in a short amount of time. She’s always willing to go above and beyond, offering support beyond her assigned duties whenever needed. Ann’s presence is felt in every classroom she enters—she brings not only knowledge, but a true sense of care.

Trisha Funke

Trisha Funke is a frequent and treasured substitute at Horizon Elementary who brings consistency, heart, and high standards to every role she takes on. When a long-term substitute was needed at the last minute, Trish stepped in without hesitation and immediately became an anchor of support for students and staff alike. Known for her organization and thoroughness, she ensures teacher plans are followed with care and that students feel safe, supported, and engaged. Trish’s calm demeanor and strong work ethic make her an outstanding presence in the building. She brings a sense of stability and genuine kindness to each classroom she leads.

Mark Porter

Mark Porter is the definition of reliable and kindhearted support. Always willing to help when he’s in town, Mark’s commitment to the Pewaukee School District is unwavering and deeply appreciated. He builds genuine relationships with students of all ages and connects with them in ways that are both meaningful and memorable. Mark has accompanied culinary students on countless field trips and remains a go-to substitute for many teachers across the district. His warm demeanor, strong rapport with students, and natural ability to teach life lessons make him a true gem in our community. Simply put—Mark is the best.
